Bobotie-inspired beef lasagne
A proudly South African version of lasagne, flavoured with mild curry spices, chutney and topped with a creamy egg custard.

- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic crushed
- 500 g beef mince
- 2 tbsp chutney
- 2 slices white bread soaked in 125 ml milk
- 2 tbsp raisins (optional)
- 2 eggs
- 250 ml milk
- 100 g grated cheddar
- 250 g Serena lasagne sheets
Preheat oven to 180 °C.
Heat oil, fry onion and garlic until soft. Add mince and cook until browned. Stir in curry powder, chutney, soaked bread and raisins. Simmer for 10 minutes.

In a jug, whisk eggs with milk to make custard topping.
250 ml milk
Layer lasagne sheets, mince mixture and grated cheese in a dish. Repeat. Pour custard over the top.
250 g Serena lasagne sheets
Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden and set.
