Bobotie-inspired beef lasagne

A proudly South African version of lasagne, flavoured with mild curry spices, chutney and topped with a creamy egg custard.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic crushed
  • 500 g beef mince
  • 2 tbsp chutney
  • 2 slices white bread soaked in 125 ml milk
  • 2 tbsp raisins (optional)
  • 2 eggs
  • 250 ml milk
  • 100 g grated cheddar
  • 250 g Serena lasagne sheets

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 180 °C.
  • Heat oil, fry onion and garlic until soft. Add mince and cook until browned. Stir in curry powder, chutney, soaked bread and raisins. Simmer for 10 minutes.

  • In a jug, whisk eggs with milk to make custard topping.
    250 ml milk
  • Layer lasagne sheets, mince mixture and grated cheese in a dish. Repeat. Pour custard over the top.
    250 g Serena lasagne sheets
  • Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden and set.
